This is amateur
video. The outside shots are all done by Geoff with his Sony 8mm, and the
in-car shots are all Dave's older Sony 8mm that we mounted in a box behind the
bulkhead window (behind/above drivers right shoulder. Sometimes the camera
battery goes dead, or the tape runs out, so we miss a few in-car runs. (We are
going to get a 12v supply for the camera soon).
Most of the ground-sky-ground shots have been removed, as well as the incredibly long drive-backs, and the even longer waiting in lines. However, there are still a few very short blank periods, and a few mistakes that we did not have time to remove from the master.
We left in some of the "pan the pits" shots so everyone could get an idea of the weekend. There is also a Palmdale run of Abel against Ray Lockhead, and a Pomona run of Abel and a 396 c.i. dual quad nitrous powered 240Z.
The in-car Sony really does not like the electrical interferance, nor the vibration, so those shots are sometimes pretty wavy. However, it really gives you a good idea of what it is like driving the car. For those who have never raced a LOUD vibrating car, you will probably really like it.
Included are two in-car passes during a Friday night test we did at Palmdale -- quite an interesting experience with the BRIGHT lights at the start, and the total darkness at the beginning of the return road.
We have included ALL the runs we have on tape -- good and bad. In almost all of them you can hear the engine "crapping" out that we have not yet had time to dial out.
At Palmdale there is a great shot of a 13B Peripheral Port Starlet from Cholo Racing doing a hard left turn into the wall in front of me while I was in the burnout box. It's a good example of catastrophic results (chassis was totaled) when something as "minor" as a rear shock mount breaks.
On all passes that we use nitrous, you can see the purge shot coming up from in front of the windshield (we put the exit tube there so the driver could see it, and it would show on the camera).
We have yet to be able to use our second nitrous system! It is going to take a complete re-think and re-design, as you can see the rather disasterous results of turning it on (with 25% at a six second delay) on the first pass at Pomona.
Anyway, we warned you -- if you get one we hope you will enjoy it
