Leaving out all the details, I had the opportunity to drive a Pro7 RX7 in an SCCA double regional. It has been 10 years since having driven any road racing car - it was reassuring to find out it did not take much time to get the rust scale and cobwebs off after that long of a time period. ---- Out of a 25-30 car field (ALL in the same class), on Saturday qualified 8th and finished 5th, on Sunday qualified 4th and finished 2nd (was in the lead for a little while even!).

With no real knowledge / experience with this class - here's
what it is:
79-85 12A RX7's only
Stock motor - NO mods
allowed
Re-jetted carb
Stock intake manifold - even have to keep the
shutter valve shaft in there
81-85 cast iron exhaust manifold, with 2 1/2"
straight pipe
Stock air filter can
Stock transmission
Stock flywheel
with racing (OEM diameter) clutch
ALL stock 12A brakes with racing
pads
Stock rear end / ratio etc. Shimmed LSD or welded
Spec (ALL cars the
same) front bar, shocks, springs, adjustable collars
ALL stock
bodywork
Gutted interior, decent gauges, seat, etc.
Turned out to be REALLY fun cars to drive (and cheap to build). The rear ends do not stick worth a damn, so you are driving virtually ALL turns with the tail hung out in the breeze, lots of reverse lock on the steering, BIG broadside slides, etc.
